2025 Toyota GR Supra Ditches the Four-Cylinder, Retains the Manual Gearbox

Toyota has made a significant move with its 2025 GR Supra lineup, waving goodbye to the four-cylinder engine and doubling down on the six-cylinder powertrain. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder GR Supra has been axed, leaving enthusiasts with the 382-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six as the sole engine option. But that’s not all—the manual transmission is making a triumphant return!

The Engine Lineup:

The 2025 GR Supra now comes in two flavors: the “3.0” and the “3.0 Premium.” Both trims feature the potent 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which churns out 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. You can choose between the eight-speed automatic or the newly resurrected six-speed manual transmission. Yes, you read that right—the manual gearbox is back, and it won’t cost you extra!

The Cost of Entry:

With the four-cylinder engine gone, the price of admission has risen. The base 3.0 model now starts at $57,345, while the 3.0 Premium demands $60,495. It’s a modest $850 increase from the 2024 model year, but without the smaller engine option, the 3.0-liter Supra is now the most affordable choice.

A Brief History:

The current-generation Toyota Supra hit the scene in 2020, initially offering only the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine. In 2021, Toyota introduced the 2.0-liter four-cylinder variant, which produced 255 horsepower. Now, as we step into 2025, the four-cylinder has been retired, leaving the 3.0-liter powerplant as the hero of the GR Supra lineup.

What About Features?

The 3.0 trim boasts power-adjustable seats upholstered in black leather and Alcantara, a 10-speaker audio system, and an 8.8-inch central display. If you opt for the 3.0 Premium, you’ll enjoy even nicer seating options in black or hazelnut-colored leather, along with a 12-speaker audio setup. Paint choices include Absolute Zero (white), Nocturnal (black), Renaissance Red, and the extra-cost Stratosphere blue.
